Data & Telemetry

Karting data and telemetry

What we measure.
And why.

Every kart in a development programme above Rookie level runs a data logger and an onboard camera. The camera shows what the driver did. The data shows what it cost.

Eight measurements

In order of how much time they usually explain.

Speed trace
Minimum corner speed and how quickly speed recovers on exit. Where the time lives.
GPS line
Turn-in and apex points against the reference. Early turn-in is the most common Bambino habit.
RPM
Whether the engine is used in the right part of its range, and where revs are lost on exit.
Sector times
Which part of the lap is improving and which is not, across a session and a season.
Onboard video
Hands, head, eyes and the moment of brake release — synchronised with the trace.
Lap-to-lap variance
The spread of lap times in a run. Consistency is scored from this, not from a best lap.
Tyre pressures & temps
Before and after every run, so setup and driving style can be separated.
Setup sheet
Every change and its result, recorded. Nothing lives in someone's head.

Minimum speed beats braking point

Parents watch the braking point. Coaches watch the apex.

Late braking looks fast and usually is not. A driver who brakes early but releases progressively and carries speed through the apex will almost always be quicker than one who stops the kart in the middle of the corner. The trace makes the argument in a way words cannot.

Time opportunity

0.14 s

Three km/h of minimum speed is the difference between a tidy corner and a fast one. That is a braking-release problem, not a bravery problem — and it is coachable.

Illustrative example — the numbers show the method, not a published lap

What the data cannot do

It cannot teach.

A trace shows where three km/h went missing; it does not put them back. That is coaching — a specific, practicable instruction, tried in the next session, checked in the next trace.
