The First Drive journey

Six steps. One session.

Every First Drive follows the same structure, so parents know exactly what will happen and children are never surprised.

  1. 01

    Meet the kart

The coach introduces the steering, pedals, seat and safety equipment while the kart is stationary. No engine yet.

  2. 02

    Learn

A simple, child-friendly explanation of throttle, brake, steering and — most importantly — stopping.

  3. 03

    First laps

A controlled track experience at walking pace, building up only as far as the child's confidence allows.

  4. 04

    Coach

Age-appropriate guidance from the side of the track, one instruction at a time.

  5. 05

    Review

Parents receive honest feedback: what the child did well, what they enjoyed, what we noticed.

  6. 06

    Next step

If the child loved it, Ignite recommends the appropriate development programme. If not, nothing lost.

Age four, done properly

Four is a starting point. Not a racing licence.

Bambino practice and competition in the UAE generally begins at five — Dubai Kartdrome, Ignite's home circuit, requires Bambino drivers to be at least five.

First Drive is therefore positioned carefully: an introduction, taster and first experience, conducted only in environments and on equipment permitted for the age. It is not a route into Bambino competition before the rules allow it.

What it does is start the relationship — with the kart, the coach and the sport — a full year before a child could otherwise begin.

What parents don't need

Common questions

Is karting safe for young children?

Karting is a well-regulated sport with equipment and rules designed specifically for children. At Ignite the youngest drivers use age-appropriate karts with restricted engines, wear approved protective equipment (a children's karting helmet, suit, gloves, boots and a rib protector), and are never on track without a coach present and a briefing beforehand.

The bigger safety factor is how a child is introduced. A First Drive is a controlled experience at very low speed, built up in small steps, and no child is asked to drive faster than their confidence allows. Progression is set by ability, not by age or by what another child is doing.

How old should my child be to start?

Ignite First Drive experiences are available from age four, at facilities and on equipment approved for that age. Bambino practice and competition in the UAE generally starts at five — Dubai Kartdrome, for example, requires Bambino drivers to be at least five — and runs to around eight, after which drivers move into Mini karts.

There is no advantage in rushing. A child who starts at six with good fundamentals will out-develop a child who was pushed into racing at five.

What equipment do we need?

For a First Drive or a first block of sessions: nothing. Ignite provides the kart, helmet and protective equipment. Once a child is attending regularly, a properly fitted helmet of their own is the first purchase we recommend, followed by a suit, gloves, boots and a rib protector. We will tell you exactly what to buy and what not to bother with.

What happens if my child has never driven before?

That is exactly what First Drive is for. The coach introduces the kart while it is stationary — steering, pedals, seat, safety equipment — then explains throttle, brake, steering and stopping in language a four or five-year-old understands. First laps are controlled and slow. Parents receive feedback afterwards and, if the child loved it, a recommendation for the right next step.
